Resurrection Reflections

By Pastor Shana Wise

The Women at the Tomb Luke 24:1-10 NIV

”On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright, the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” Then they remembered his words. When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles.“

Even after Jesus‘s death, it was important to the women to look after his body (Jesus’s mother Mary was present).

When they found out that Jesus was not dead but alive, they went and told the disciples (evangelism).

John 11:35 Jesus Wept

When Lazarus died, it was a foreshadowing of what Jesus was going to have soon to endure by being buried in a tomb. Yet, the thought of dying didn’t bother him because he knew that he would rise on the third day. He knew that he was sent to earth to die to defeat the power of sin in our lives.

I believe that, even though our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ has risen from the dead, he still weeps at people, who are still choosing not to believe in eternal life after death. He weeps at all of those that will reject what he did on the cross, and will not be able to spend eternity in heaven.

And John, chapter 11, Jesus’s friend Mary stated that Lazarus would not have died if he had been there. Others in the crowd questioned if he could do all these other miracles and why wasn’t he present when Lazarus died (vs 37).

This symbolizes the people today who blame or question God about the world's problems (ex). They choose to focus more on that than God himself. Many will die in their sins never accepting Jesus as Lord.

Let us remember today the importance of the women after they left the tomb, they evangelized the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Let us be like the women and men disciples of the Bible, they spread the word of Jesus‘s death burial, and resurrection, so that others may believe.

Lastly, let us not have our Lord and Savior weep over our disobedience to the gospel by not being a witness or living for him.
