Our theme for this month studying is: What Does the Bible say about Finances and the scripture is Deuteronomy 8:18, “And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.
Many of us have experienced God’s goodness through the financial blessings He has given us. Yet, today, we may still need financial insight to accomplish our goals, dreams, and desires.
Let us examine part of King Solomon’s story. He was at a “crossroads” when his father, King David, died, and he started ruling as king of Israel. He was young and had no experience being king. He watched his father, David, rule Israel as king and was brought up to worship God, but watching someone else do something and then having to do it yourself are two different things.

As we examine the text, here are a few questions that I want you to consider regarding yourself and your financial situation:
1. Are you fully walking in the assignment that God has given you?
2. Do you need your financial situation to change?
3. What are some bad habits that you have with money? Or what have you done to get yourself in the financial position that you are in today?
4. What things have you not yet accomplished because of finances?
5. What has God spoken to you lately? Have you obeyed the last thing God told you to do?
2 Chronicles 1:1 Now Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and the Lord his God was with him and exalted him exceedingly.
· God ordained Solomon to be king of Israel after his father, David. David had other sons who wanted and tried to be king, but God fixed it so that Solomon would rule.
· Solomon’s assignment was to be king. He did not choose to be king, God chose it for him. `So, I ask the question again, what is your assignment?
· God was with Solomon. I believe this was because Solomon worshipped God, just like his father David did. In 2 Chronicles 1:2-6, we find Solomon and the children of Israel worshipping God at the Tabernacle. Part of being a leader is demonstrating to the people that are following you. It was important to Solomon to publicly worship The True and Living God.
· Sometimes we can be more focused on our current financial situation or circumstances than on our assignment. I pose a question: how much time and energy are you giving to your assignment than everything else?
2 Chronicles 1:7-12, On that night God appeared to Solomon, and said to him, “Ask! What shall I give you?” And Solomon said to God: “You have shown great mercy to David my father, and have made me king in his place. 9 Now, O Lord God, let Your promise to David my father be established, for You have made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude. 10 Now give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this great people of Yours?” 11Then God said to Solomon: “Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked riches or wealth or honor or the life of your enemies, nor have you asked long life—but have asked wisdom and knowledge for yourself, that you may judge My people over whom I have made you king— 12 wisdom and knowledge are granted to you; and I will give you riches and wealth and honor, such as none of the kings have had who were before you, nor shall any after you have the like.”

· Definition of wisdom (Oxford Dictionary): the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgment; the quality of being wise.
· Definition of knowledge (Oxford Dictionary): facts, information, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education; the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject.
· Solomon asked God for wisdom and knowledge. When we the last time you made this request to God? What was His response?
· I believe Solomon understood that money, power, title, and position could not get him wisdom and knowledge.
· Notice God’s response, “…because this was in your heart…”. God saw that Solomon’s request was from a place of sincerity and unselfishness. Solomon wanted to be a good and righteous king, he wanted to be able to lead God’s people with wisdom and knowledge.
· I believe that wealth and riches are a matter of the heart. God wants his children to be able to handle money with a heart that is for Him. God promised to take care of his children. When it comes to our assignment, God wants to be able to lead and guide us, and not have money competing with His will.
· God blessed Solomon with his request of wisdom and knowledge, and because his heart was open, God blessed him with riches and wealth.

Here is what King Solomon accomplished with what was given to him:
1. He Built the First Temple of Jerusalem.
2. He Established a “Golden Age” for Israel. (peace, prosperity, and the people worshiped in the Temple of God).
3. He expanded the kingdom’s territory by controlling trade routes and implementing administrative reforms.
4. He strengthened trade with other countries.
5. He built palaces, fortifications, and public works.
6. He wrote books of the bible and made the arts a part of Israel’s culture.
This is a great list of Solomon’s lifetime achievements; he left a legacy!
As we reflect on our life’s achievements, what have you done with your wisdom, knowledge, and finances to:
1. Bring God glory?
2. Be a blessing to someone else?
3. Leave a legacy for your family, community, and the kingdom of God?
